You’ve surely heard of Cala Macarella, Cala Galdana, and Cala Mitjana. And it’s no surprise that when you plan your travel itinerary around Menorca, these coves are among those places you can’t afford not to visit if you come to the island. There are certain coves on the island, like those mentioned above, that, while very beautiful, their fame comes from the hotels surrounding them. That’s why when you go to see them, you’ll find countless tourists and little space on the sand to spread out your towel. Therefore, to get to know them, we recommend renting a boat in Menorca, a perfect way to discover them from the sea.

In addition to these three beautiful coves, Menorca hides hidden corners of turquoise waters and absolute calm that will leave you breathless. But first, you should know that it’s not just the south of the island that holds these paradisiacal places.

To begin with, if you rent a boat in Menorca, you should know that the route will be determined by the wind direction. That is, if the wind is expected to be from the north, we’ll sail south, where the most popular coves are located. If, on the other hand, we wake up on a southerly day, we’ll sail north, where you’ll discover the island’s most natural and wild coast. At Yacht Charter Menorca, we always prioritize safety and comfort while sailing, so sailing against the wind ensures we’re protected by the island itself.

Now that you know the trick to enjoying Menorca’s coves in the best conditions, we’re going to recommend some of them on both coasts.

The north coast of the island is the great unknown and underrated, as its dark rocky landscape, starting from the northeast, makes it not so attractive at first. However, I encourage you to discover Sa Mesquida, the Es Grau nature reserve, rent a kayak and visit Illa d’en Colom, and dive into the crystal-clear waters that bathe Cala Tortuga and Presili near the Favaritx lighthouse. And if you’re looking for more atmosphere, Arenal d’en Castell and Arenal de Son Saura will delight you. Needless to say, in all of them you’ll enjoy that turquoise color so sought after in Menorca, but if you’re looking to relax in lesser-known, more “local” coves, we recommend Cala Pudent and Tosqueta. From there, we’re sure you’ll be able to discover Cavallería, where the red sand begins, and the legendary Cala Pregonda that steals so many hearts. By renting a boat, there are countless secret spots throughout this area that are only accessible by sea, and we’ll be happy to show you around as long as you keep it a secret. Few people know their location, and to maintain their magic, they need to remain unknown. From submerged caves, imposing cliffs, arches carved into the mountains… Are you more interested in visiting the north of Menorca?

It’s worth mentioning that we haven’t mentioned famous coves like Cala Morell, Cala Pilar, or Cala Algaiarens, but they were surely already on your to-do list.

On the other hand, the much-acclaimed south of the island, with its Mediterranean flair characterized by pine-covered mountains, fishing villages, white sand, and azure waters, is undoubtedly a place you can’t miss. Among our favorites are Ses Olles, Es Caló Blanc, Biniparratx, Es Canutells, Cales Coves, Son Bou, and Binigaus. But among all these, there are more anonymous corners that will fascinate you and where our boat will reach without any problem of encountering crowds. These include the cliff of Son Ganxo, opposite the magical Isla del Aire, and the caves and arches between Es Canutells and Cales Coves. Other special places include San Llorenç and its dome-shaped cave within the cliff, and of course, Llucalari. I’m sure you’ll get to know the rest of the coves much better from here, as these are some of the most famous: Santo Tomás, Fustam, Trebalúger, Mitjana and Mitjaneta, Galdana, Macarella and Macarelleta, Cala Turqueta, and the beautiful Son Saura.

I think I’ve revealed several secrets to you, but I’m going to save a few special places to surprise you, because the experience of sailing the coast of Menorca with us is something you can’t miss.
